The knowledge economy is growing fast.
It's a billion dollar industry available to everyone interested in selling their knowledge online.
As we've worked with multi-million dollar earning course creators over the years, we've discovered key takeaways that separate the top 1% of course creators that have built thriving businesses.
Over the past three plus years,
my company has worked with
dozens and dozens of the top 1%.
Of course creators, those who
are making multiple six and
seven figures and income alone
directly from an online course.
And what I want to talk to you
today are the top secrets,
takeaways and insights I've
learned from my years in working
with these top 1%. Of course
creators and what separates them
from those who struggle to make
the passive and active income
that you can generate with
online courses. The first secret
is choosing to be different.
This is one insight that I took
away from our work with Daniel
Leslie, she has made over $10
million with selling online
courses to her worldwide
audience and has continued to
influence just 1000s and
hundreds of 1000s all around the
world. And one thing that she
established early on is a unique
process or framework for doing
what she does. And it transcends
simply selling a product around
how to teach others how to
create an online course, which
is what her product does, she
calls it being a culture add.
This kind of deconstructs this
idea of being a culture fit in a
company, you often hear that
when you join a big company, you
know midsize company where
they're like, Hey, this is how
you can be a culture fit. Here's
how you can fit into our
culture, versus how can you
contribute from an addition, not
fitting in, but adding to the
culture that exists. And that
comes down to your unique story,
your unique perspective, and
your unique beliefs around how
to make the world a better place
how to serve other people. And
Danielle does this incredibly
well. And it shows based on her
raving fans and students who
have gotten amazing results with
her clear process. Of course,
the second secret similar to the
first one is a framework,
establishing a clear step by
step process for getting results
from taking someone from where
they're currently at, which is
usually in a struggling
situation where they can't get
out of they have pains and
problems, something that's
keeping them stuck from being
successful, and whatever avenue
that you sell, and help others
on with your knowledge with
expertise. And it's guiding them
from that current state to the
person they want to become the
business that they want to
build. What is that end benefit
and pay off that framework, I
recommend breaking it down into
three easy steps, you may within
each of those three steps have
tons of micro steps, which is
often the case, right? It's not
as easy as 123. But you should
present it as easy as 123.
Because in doing so people can
feel confident that, hey, this
is not over complicated, and I
can understand what it looks
like to be successful. A
framework is something that I
definitely pulled from all of
our clients. But one in
particular is Dr. wil bolts of
its, he's a best selling author
of the plant fed gut. And it's
all about using the health of
your gut gut health, to
transform your health and the
plant fed gut. And the framework
he presents inside of his book
becomes his online course and
becomes the unique process that
no one else can use. He gives it
a unique name, and a unique set
of steps that no one else can
use, because it's his unique
stories and perspectives that
add to that framework. And so
when people ask you, well hey,
what makes you different from
this other marketing agency or
consultant, or ecommerce
business out there, then what
you can do is present using your
unique brand name or framework
name, your unique and stand out
approach that no one else can
claim here Content Supply. That
is our unique framework. within
it. We have other frameworks
that we guide people through
whether it's related to
messaging or marketing or other
content creation, but it allows
us to stand out because no one
else can claim and use the terms
and the unique processes that
we've established for ourselves
and for our clients. The third
secret is to serve first. This
is a takeaway that I pulled from
Melissa Griffin, who is a
longtime blogger, where she's
captured the attention of many
amazing entrepreneurs and brands
around the world with her unique
voice and stories and
perspectives shared through her
podcasts or her digital
products. And she has focus all
on mindset all on this ability
to serve first because
oftentimes, people they need to
solve for what's in here before
they can solve for anything
else. And in focusing on the
mind and focusing on the results
that you can achieve once you
can not master the mind. improve
on it and understand why you
think a certain way, then you
can show up and grow your
business to new levels. And
Melissa Griffin has created a
number a whole suite of online
courses that have helped
entrepreneurs of all kinds and
all stages of their business, be
successful, and become raving
fans as well. And so when you
serve first, it's all about
putting your audience and your
customers first. What do they
feel? What do they want to
achieve? What are their dreams,
what keeps them up at night, so
that way you can present a clear
message and invite them to take
action with your business that
helps them resolve that conflict
or that struggle that they're
having. The fourth secret is to
just start in perfectly and then
improve over time. This is a big
takeaway that I pulled from our
work with Terry Fujiyama, she is
the top of course creator on the
teachable platform teachable is
an online course building
software and platform that
attracts hundreds of 1000s of
creators all the time creating
and selling their knowledge
online. It's an incredible
platform. If you want to learn
more about them, make sure to
check out the link down below.
Something that Terry joma has
done so well, is that she simply
launched without not much
knowledge around how to build an
online selling online course,
she did come from the education
world where she was a principal
before she stepped into doing
day trading and traveling the
world while doing it, which
turned into her brand of trade
and travel. So she teaches other
people how to trade in the stock
market while traveling the
world. And so she just launched,
she tested it with people, she
just recorded all their lessons
herself. And in doing so it was
an imperfect launch. And she
didn't put any money into paid
ads. She used affiliate
marketing, so her network of
people to help promote it on her
behalf. But yet they can benefit
right and make commission as an
affiliate. But she started in
perfectly and kept on improving
over time. Eventually she did
hire and work with us to build
out professional content help
her relaunch several times. And
in doing so we're able to help
her scale up to new levels of
growth in her business. But
she's just one of many examples
from our clients and other
successful course creators who
have built a thriving not just a
surviving business, a thriving
business that allows them to
simply just re iterate and
improve upon their product of an
online course, over time similar
to say a software company would
do, where they would release the
minimum viable product or in the
case of online courses, the
minimum viable course, the most
simple yet actionable version.
And then over time, you make it
more of a perfected solution.
And the fifth secret, which is a
big one is to focus on results
and benefits over features and
the how tos, I discovered a lot
of these insights from
teachable, I mentioned teachable
earlier, where they are an
online course creation platform,
and through interacting with the
employees, the team, but there
are 1000s upon 1000s of creators
on their platform, we have found
that the easiest way to sell a
course is to sell the outcome of
the course the end result. It's
kind of like when you're going
on a vacation. Are you selling
people on the amazing plane ride
to get to your destination? Or
are you selling them on what
they can do when they're at
their final destination, you're
not going to sell them on the
plane ride, you're going to sell
them on what they get in the
end, what that final destination
looks like what that benefit and
that result looks like and the
journey to get there are the
steps that you teach Shin walk
them through later on.
But that's not what they're
buying into. They're buying into
the result that you can promise
or guarantee them. And when
course creators have fallen
short and not reach their goals
or have not had a successful
launch, it often comes down to
not a clear offer, not a clear
message related to talking about
the benefits and results that a
potential student can achieve
with the course. So those are
just some of my top five
takeaways and secrets and
insights that I pulled from the
top 1% of course creators that
we have worked with over the
years. If you want to learn a
