It is pretty much a fact that you need to be comfortable when you appear on camera. If you are uncomfortable and nervous, your viewers will pick up on it. There will be a lot of things going through your head right before filming that can make you very nervous.
Most people get a bit nervous the first time they film an episode or when they upload their first video to YouTube. But in this video I go over some things to consider and some advice for what to wear when filming your videos as well as making yourself comfortable.
VIDEO SUPPLY is the best video production service for online brands and agencies to make it easy to create high-performing video anywhere in the world, while building enthusiastic demand for your mission, products and services.
Let's talk about what to wear. When you create videos. Welcome to Video Marketing Made Easy, where we believe video is the most powerful and effective way to stand out in the market, monetize your message and grow your business. So when it comes to feeling confident, comfortable and ready to film your videos, be that marketing videos on social media, maybe product videos, education, videos, sales, outreach videos, whatever it may be. It's all about dressing to impress seen dressed to impress. The first tip here is to wear something that you're comfortable in, whether you're sitting or standing, you want to wear clothing that doesn't feel uncomfortable that you're not constantly shifting or worried about, does this look professional enough or too casual. Part of this comes down to understanding your business, your values and who you're talking to, if you are in b2b business to business, and you're outreaching to investors, or other members of your team, and you probably should wear something more business casual or professional looking, then dress the part. But maybe you're trying to build a connection and show that hey, I'm just a normal person who wears normal clothes. I'm not always in a shirt and tie or in a specific nice blouse or dress, dressing clothing that works and is comfortable. Second tip for what to wear when you film your videos is to wear something cool. And we mean cool in both the literal sense and the figurative sense. So for example, maybe it's really hot, you got lights on you, and you're filming and you're starting to sweat. No one wants to see that sweat on camera unless you are an athlete, and you're doing a workout. And they want to see that but most often No. So you want to wear something that you can feel cool in both from a temperature side so your body doesn't overheat, and you don't feel uncomfortable in what you're wearing. So don't wear too many clothes. Don't bundle up too much in a way that makes you feel too warm. And then at the same time you want to look cool, right? You want to be able to connect with people and feel like wow, I can trust this person. They look classy. For me t shirts work a lot for most days. Back in my corporate days, I would wear more business casual collared shirts often ties. Now, connecting people, everyday clothes like this are pretty much the norm. So wear clothes that definitely fit your personality fit your brand and allow you to connect to that way. I've referenced this before. But let's get into tip number three, wear something that's consistent with your brand. For me, my brand is minimalist. This may look like wearing a shirt with your logo on it. I've done that many times you'll see a video supply right here, or other variations as our swag and design evolves. For you it may be pay my business represents business professionals so shirt and tie, which more often than not, I'm a big believer that that looks a little bit too uptight and too professional. Go a little bit more on the casual the business casual side and you'll be good to go. But your business also may represent hey, if I'm in sports or or athletics, I can wear more workout clothing. You definitely want to err on the side of decency though, you don't want to show too much of your skin. Because that can ultimately detract from your message. Another tip as far as what to wear is make sure to try and your clothing at least the morning of or a day or week before you go to film. If you're filming videos consistently, then you'll kind of know what your go to wardrobe and clothing is. But you don't want to go and throw on your favorite clothing. What you have selected out in advance for your filming and find that hey, there's wrinkles in my shirt, or there's a stain on my blouse here and find that you kind of have to go to your second best, you always want to focus on getting your best wardrobe option and making sure it fits you well and that you feel comfortable and confident in it. And worst case scenario for another tip, have some backup options. Oftentimes, if you're batch filming, meaning you're filming more than one video at a time, then having multiple wardrobe options is a good idea. Some people may not notice others will be like why is that person wearing the same shirt or blouse or sweater for every single video they create? Well, most often they have filmed all those videos at once. So every once in a while swap out your shirt, you know your top so that way it's different and it feels like it was filmed on a different day. Along those lines too. Less related to wardrobe but you can always switch out your background a little bit too so it feels like they're different videos and and having kind of a backup or are multiple wardrobe options. There's also the possibility that you take a break, and maybe you're holding your your kids, I'm speaking from experience and they completely vomit all over your shirt, and you have to change your shirt. Yeah, it's no fun, especially if you like that shirt and you hope that this thing comes out. It's not anything gross, but have a backup and know that you may get stains or he may spill some water or coffee on your shirt. And that's normal for those who are clumsy like me. And you can have that option as a backup. Another tip is to not wear really bright colors like neon or stripes, because a lot of cameras don't really play friendly with those. Because what happens is sometimes if you have too many lights on you and you've got a really bright white blouse or shirt on, then that color in the frame is what we call blown out or overexposed. And you can't really recover from that when you go to say do color correction or adjust it in the editing phase. And so it looks less professional, and it's a little distracting, kind of like having stains in your clothing. So those are some quick tips and ideas around what to wear when you film, your videos and the build your video supply inside of your business.
